So after becoming a fan at Art School and a further fifteen years of hanging his [IKEA] prints at home I was suitably excited heading into Portland Art Museum to see Rothkos’ work up close and personal.
And it was worth the trip, just the sheer scale of his work adds so much presence. Those A3 framed prints just don’t cut-it anymore.
The exhibition runs for another month, until May 27th, and with ~30 pieces covering his entire career timeline it’s a relevant collection.
