SIGGRAPH Returns to Anaheim & Vancouver.

SIGGRAPH Vancouver

“SIGGRAPH 2013 plans to return to Anaheim, California, 21-25 July, to celebrate the 40th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques  alongside thousands of research scientists, gaming experts and developers, filmmakers, students, the production community and academics worldwide. Mk Haley of Disney Research, Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University has been named SIGGRAPH 2013 Conference Chair.”

“After SIGGRAPH 2011 broke Vancouver’s previous all-time conference attendance records, it has become one of the most memorable SIGGRAPH conference cities. Due to this overwhelming attendance and community support, SIGGRAPH 2014 will return to Vancouver for the 41st International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, 10-14 August 2014.”

Medina Cafe

The best breakfast of the week.  If you’re in downtown Vancouver anytime of day, MedinaCafe is just awesome.  Along with a crazy good menu, it’s also ‘cool’, whilst completely unpretentious.  Seeing as I looked like I’d been in a convention center for the last six days it was nice of them to let me in amongst all the trendy folk.

Q4 Al Centro

Monday night we hit Gio’s family restaurant, Q4 Al Centro.  I couldn’t decide between the Tenderloin and the family-recipe Spaghetti; so they gave me both, or course. Amazing food, wine, desserts, service and ambiance.  An all round perfect Italian; and if you go – I totally recommend the Spaghetti – it’s crazy good.

Vij’s

Saturday night I hit Vij’s with Raj.  Damn, what a great place, one of the nicest, most original indian meals I’ve ever eaten, but still with a strong sense of authenticity.  The restaurant does not take reservations and a 2.5 hour wait is usual; we wandered off to review a couple of local pubs and work on our appetite.  If you get chance to visit this place on your travels to Vancouver, it’s worth it.

More empty Convention Center and setup in the Studio and Sandbox areas.  You can tell who’d done this before; I was silently freaking out while everyone was strolling around casually.  Despite the laid back attitude things came together pretty quick.  … Continue reading

Saturday; an empty convention center and Real-Time Live! setup.  There were so many boxes in this room it looked like the warehouse from Indiana Jones.  Fortunately Freeman know what they’re doing.  Luke, the AV MC worked from backstage, and what … Continue reading
